Duck season was pretty uneventful again this year. Chunk was able to fetch a few, but he's in the market for a boat (or a plane ride) for next year. Opportunities from the road system are pretty limited, but the scenery is always good.
Finally got the moose antlers up on the wall. It was a challenge finding a spot that would fit them (and a stud in the wall that would hold them up. After the mount was complete, the total weight is over 50 lbs.
We finally got the pepperoni, sausage, and burger back from the butcher shop. A new favorite is the moose bacon from Indian Valley.
We have averaged one new freezer per year so far since we have been in Alaska. We don't have room for a third, so we are going to be busy eating moose and fish this winter so we have an excuse to get out again next summer and refill them.
In order to make room for the moose sausage, we needed to make up a batch of canned sockeye salmon. For a more palatable presentation,we tried a slightly new style this year - cutting the salmon into strips and using the smaller half-pint jars.
We took a hike on one of our unseasonably warm afternoons and ran into a big female lynx. Ryan just about stepped on her as she was hunkered down in a clump of grass next to trail - in hopes that we would just pass on by. Well, Chunk got a whiff of something and stuck his nose into the clump of grass and she shot out in a hurry, running into Ryan's leg as she attempted to avoid the giant black dog.
She didn't go far and posed for a couple of photos. We suspected she had some kittens close as she did not want to leave the area.
Made it out for late season trout fishing trip on the Kenai with some coworkers. We caught 15-20 fish with the largest being the two rainbows below - in the 24" range.
