Mexican Holiday Part 1

We purchased a Groupon for this place near Todos Santos, Mexico about 4 years ago when we still lived in Oregon. They were selling the little huts for less than $30 a night, so we couldn't pass it up. Well, the Groupon expired on Jan. 1st, 2015 - so it was use it or lose it time. We called and booked the place almost a year in advance and luckily they still had a few spots available.

They got hit hard by Hurricane Odile this fall and weren't sure they were going to be open before we were scheduled to go. They opened back up about 3 weeks before we were scheduled to go, but it was clear they were still rebuilding.

Our little one-bedroom beach front hut. The huts all lost their palm-frond roofs, windows, and doors during the hurricane. Our hut had about a foot of sand inside on the floor from the storm surge and flooding. Many of the resorts in Cabo still have not re-opened.

Easy access to the pool and swim up bar.

View from the front patio looking north up the beach at the surf shop and toward the Hacienda Hotel - also owned by the same place that we were staying.

View from the Hacienda looking back towards our place - The Surf Colony.

View of the Beach Bar - great place to enjoy cervezas and watch the surfers.

The Hacienda pool and Whale Watching Bar. There were lots of whales out and about.

Living it up at the Hotel California bar in Todos Santos.

Old growth cactus and arms busted off by the hurricane.

The swells were quite a bit larger than normal due some offshore blows they had recently. Even the pro-surfers were struggling. Water temps were about 80 degrees, the first time we've ever been surfing without wetsuits.

On our way back through Cabo we stayed in San Jose del Cabo, near the historic art district - a little different vibe than the party scene down the road in Cabo San Lucas. Well known for it's art galleries, but still also rebuilding from the hurricane.
