The previous owners of our place made use of some old concrete to build a raised flower bed at the end of the driveway. It was becoming over grown with weeds and tree roots, so it was time to go.
The side-yard area was also in need of a fresh covering of gravel, so we hired a contractor to come in and help with that project. They were able to find a home for the old concrete as well.
We built up around the old pile with some treated 4"x6"s and filled it with some clean soil.
We hadn't planned to plant the entire box as the growing season was about over, but we stumbled on a sale at one of the local nurseries that was too good to pass up. Looks like a nice moose buffet. Luckily the moose didn't find it before it became covered with snow, but I'm sure next spring it will be a magnet for mama moose and her new calves. We might need to invest in some fencing to cover it up and give the plants a chance to establish.
Another project that got put off until the last minute was the storage shed. We had been discussing this since we moved in and finally had to pull the trigger as the garage/yard was quickly becoming full of stuff that needed a new home. We lucked out with the weather this fall and Ryan was able to get the roof on the same day as the first snow fell. We found some salvaged doors at the local rebuilding center. The old window is one that we had packed all the way up from Oregon.
Next spring/summer we'll make a fun little seating area for enjoying evening cocktails and mosquito dodging. We left a little covered walkway between the shed and the house and filled it with a cord of firewood.
