Northern Lights / New Pup

We added a new member to the family this week...an 8 month old rescue mutt. Chunk needed a new playmate, so we've been looking around some of the local shelters for a rescue dog.

We found this little girl and introduced her to Chunk for his approval (also to see if she was sturdy enough to handle 120 lbs. of slobbering lab). She passed the test.

We finally got some snow and took up a new hobby this week - cross country skiing. We've been wanting to give it a try as there are a ton of good trails in Anchorage. Joni's hip is finally in good enough shape to give it a try and it's a good way to get out and get some exercise in the winter. There's even some lighted trails by our house for night skiing.

We decided to start on some flat ground and try it out before hitting the trails with the hills. It's harder than it looks, but doesn't take too long to get the hang of.

Sledding Alaska-style. Good use for an old mattress.

January was a good month for the Northern Lights. However, almost every time they came out in Anchorage it was either 2AM or cloudy. We were able to catch them one night and were able to get a few decent photos. You can barely make out Mt. McKinley (Denali) in the background under the moonlight.
