Marathon 2014

Half of the state ascends on Seward every 4th of July for the annual Mt. Marathon race and associated festivities. All of the campsites in town were booked, but we settled for this one...not too shabby. Fireworks go off at midnight, since that is when it dark enough.

There's a great Youtube video of this year's race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KHIxBCLi8jQ

View of Mt Marathon from across Resurrection Bay.

The trail up the mountain is up the middle...the trail(s) down are to the right. The skies were clear enough to see the ants climbing up the mountain. Many years, the clouds obstruct the view.

Hosing off at the finish line. Winner came in well under an hour. Temps were scorching by Alaska standards.

The real athletes watch the race from the brewery.

The weather was so warm that Joni wore the soles of her shoes off. Over 70 degrees!
