We made the trip up north to Isabelle Pass (where they have Arctic Man in April). If you haven't seen Arctic Man it involves a downhill skier that is towed by a snow mobile at 80mph for a portion of a 4 mile race http://www.arcticman.com/about-the-race
The plowed road and pad into our target campsite was drifted in with heavy snow, so we made it in as far as we could.
Little Chunk - 5 months old and almost 70 lbs.
The 4' diameter trans-alaska pipeline parallels the road near Cantwell Glacier.
Milepost 598.9 (mile 0 is in Prudhoe Bay/Deadhorse). The pipeline ends in Valdez nearly 200 miles further south. It takes a drop of oil about 6 days to make the 800 mile journey.
The new tipi withstood some serious winds and blizzard conitions. The woodstove kept it plenty warm. Six-inch tent pegs don't work well in 12" of snow.
Gulkana Glacier
A moose family patiently waiting for spring. We saw a fat black bear on the way home, so spring is just around the corner...hopefully. However, there's snow in the Anchorage forecast this weekend.
