Running of the Reindeer

The annual running of the reindeer occurs after the start of the Iditarod in downtown Anchorage. Everyone dresses up in fun costumes and consumes a large amount of alcohol before running down the snow covered street with wild reindeer (from a farm).

First, the reindeer are led down the street and put into holding pens. The racers are given a 30 second head start on the 200 yard course before the reindeer are let loose. Amazingly nobody has ever been injured by a reindeer.

The good seats are hard to come by, so you gotta take what you can get.

The reindeer seemed to enjoy most of it (or at least tolerated it)...until the drunken pirate slapped them on the backside. They have several race heats with pretty good prize money for the winners. We may have to participate next year.
