Pike Fishing

We gave ice fishing another try out at our favorite lake. We rented a cabin for 2 nigths and rode the snow machines in with the sled loaded full of libations and firewood. Our friends came out the next day to join us. Unlike our last 2 trips, this time the pike were biting. We managed to land 2 nice 24" pike and several in the 16-20" range.

We were able to set the tip-ups were we could see them from the bonfire and the front-porch of the cabin. Talk about lazy man fishing. You can even ride the snowmachine out to reel in your catch if you are feeling extra lazy.

Pike are a pretty strange creature...almost alligator like, except with more teeth. We lost one that chewed right through the 30lb test line - gonna have to stick with the steel leader. Filleting them is quite a chore since they have unique y-bones.
