Toby's new brother!

We have been shopping around for a new puppy since we moved to Alaska. The selection for breeds is pretty slim here and the gene pool...well let's just say it's relatively shallow. We didn't really have a specific breed in mind, but Ryan has wanted to get a bird dog for quite a while. We couldn't really decide on any perfect purebred species, so we decided we would look for a mix.

We were convinced we would have to get one from the lower 48, which would be a huge pain in the rear. Once we saw these little guys last week we couldn't help but go check them out - and only 45 miles away from our house. They are a Chesapeake Bay Retriever/ Black Labrador mix. The litter was half brown and half black puppies.

By the time we got there, he was the only one left (a black one). They were so popular that they went pretty fast. He is only six weeks old, so we can't bring him home just yet. We haven't picked out a name yet, but Toby is voting for Dexter. His parents are from a small island in the Aleutian Islands, close to Dutch Harbor - home of the Deadliest Catch crab grounds.
