One of our favorite stores in Anchorage had a a menorah that wasn't any ordinary menorah, so we had to partake. Yearly the Shmatz Brewing Company offers a special menorah, featuring special Hebrew beers.
Christmas was quite low key this year. We ate, ate more, drank, and laid around. We had a white Christmas so we decided to ride the snow machines around our neighborhood and create a little race track around the house. That was the extent of our Christmas excitement.
For New Years Eve we chose to live it up a little. We got a hotel downtown at the Captain Cook and went to the party there, which immediately we knew would be some of the best people watching ever. The Captain Cook is a really neat place that has several bars that are like Portland City Grill that overlooks the inlet and downtown, I don't think there are many better views.
We walked downtown and saw the ice carvings, which they had been working on all week. They ship in art carvers from all over the world and this years theme was a winter play ground for kids. In the middle of the park was an ice skating rink and 80's music.
Me in one of the tea cups!
Thomas the train!
After seeing the ice sculptures we went back to the hotel room and watched the fireworks.
Unfortunaetly we were so busy people watching we forgot to take pictures of ourselves:(.
At the Captain Cook they have the most amazing Gingerbread Village I have every seen. All of it is created by their pasty chefs. I couldn't begin to capture the true village, see the link below.
