We went down Turnagin Arm to Girdwood for a concert last weekend. It was also the annual Slush Cup where costumed skiers and snowboarders try to skate across a slush filled pond.

We took a drive down to Whittier this weekend. You have to pay $12 to go through the 2.5 mile long tunnel to get there. There's not much there, other than a boat harbor and a few shops. It has a cool wartime history if you look it up.
The tunnel is only one lane and it is also shared by train tracks. There are scheduled times to go through the tunnel, so you need to wait about 30 minutes or more for your turn to pass. It's a little creepy.
A welcome site, the other side.
Whittier is a neat little spot and the closest (by car) saltwater fishing from Anchorage. Right now it is shrimping season, so lot's of people were out trying to catch the little guys. You fish for them pretty much like you would for crab, just in deeper water.
Creek coming out of Portage Glacier.

Railroad bridge at Twentymile River. The smelt (eulachon) - called hooligan here are just starting to trickle in. Next month they should be thick.
Next year's duck hunting spot.
