We finally had some winter-time visitors. Joni's aunt, uncle, and cousin visited this past week and we took them north to Talkeetna for the weekend. I think they will be back, but probably in the summertime. Talkeetna is the town that was the basis for the old TV show Northern Exposure (although it was filmed in Roslyn, Washington). We rented the one-bedroom Trapper John's Cabin - it was cozy with 5 of us.
The temperature was a balmy -15 degrees over the weekend, luckily there are four bars in town...we visited them all.
The Talkeetna Roadhouse is the hub of town and was made famous on the TV show Man vs. Food in 2009 for their giant piles of sourdough pancakes that hang over the side of your plate.
Down the road a few miles in Trapper Creek, there is place called Wal-Mikes...kind of like Wal-Mart, but obviously different. This place has one of everything, complete with a rabbit hutch containing a stuffed rabbit, a garden gnome statue, and a stuffed crow robbing chow from the food bin.
