Kenai drift boat trip

This little guy got into a scrap with a bigger bull and lost one of his little mini-paddles. When he showed up in the garage trying to hide out (while Joni was working in there) he was bleeding and it was still dangling. He hung out in the yard for quite awhile trying to salvage what was left of his pride.
We floated the upper Kenai in the drift boat on October 22nd with my co-worker Omar. It was cold, but the river was in good shape. Keeping the ice off of the rod-guides was a challenge, but we managed to pick up a few fish. Omar had the catch of the day with a nice bright silver that we took home for the BBQ.
The rainbow fishing wasn't red hot, but we managed to pick up a few. This fat 20" bow was the biggest one we landed. The fish are stuffed with eggs and flesh leftover from the spawned out sockeye. Small salmon egg colored beads and white flesh patterns are the only things these trout like this time of year.
It only took me a few minutes to hook this little guy on my new Tinkerbell rod. The secret weapon is the magic pixie dust sound that it makes each time you cast. Although, it sounded more like a dying cow, as the batteries didn't like the sub 30-degree weather. I beefed her up with some 12lb. line just in case. I think it will make a great ice fishing rod this winter.
